Men who strike women should be brought down, and hard. I believe in the futility of violence, except in situations like these.
However, you must make the distinction between what Islam intended and between the interpretation of Islam.
There are many interpreters who support this monstrous man and many who oppose him.
All of this is a reflection of the man himself, the male mentality.
I have worked at a feminist center for some time (yes, men can be feminists too) and have observed that way sick male mentalities operate.
Abusive men are weak men, who are able to find millions of excuses to justify hitting a woman; "she provoked me", "made me do it, I didn't mean to", "she hit me first" - which is by the way the most recent justification many men harbor upon the foundation of feminism.
And some use - or misuse - religion, which is why I couldn't watch the video, reflects the same criminal mentality that women abusers possess to justify an unredeemable crime.
